Annapurna in a Sanskrit name, litereally means "full of grains" which is "Goddess of the harvest". She is also an avatar of the Goddess Durga. Annapurna Region is located in the western part of Nepal in between two zones - Gandaki and Dhaulagiri and the district in this region are Baglung , Kaski , Lamjung , Manang, Mustang and Myagdi. Annapurna region consists of some of the popular treks , such as the Annapurna Circuit treks which circles the Annapurna Range , the Kaligandaki River Valley trek which brings you up the world's deepest valley and the Annapurna Sanctuary treks ,to the Annapurna Base Camp. The shorter treks ar,e also available with many more trails. Other peaks in the Annapurnas include Annapurna I (8,091 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m) and Machhapuchchhre (6,993 m). To the west of Annapurnas is Dhaulagiri I (8,167 m) where most of these peaks are visible throughtout the region on the fair days. Annapurna I is also the 10th highest summit in the world. Annapurna Region is one of the easy and accessible to reach the mountains. It's also rich in Tibetian and Gurung culture and many more. The diverse in flora and fauna with worlds highest lake 'Tilicho Lake ' and ice lake makes this region popular among the trekkers. To enter the Annapurna Conservaton Area Project (ACAP) , a permit is required which encompasses most of the region. Permits are issued in Pokhara and Kathmandu while you will need to show the permit at police stations in severa towns along the trial.
